HER-STORY is back for our second round of women-powered documentary cinema. The focus of this screening is migrant and refugee cinema in Canada.
We are pleased to announce our feature presentation, MIGRANT DREAMS (2016), lead by award winning director Min Sook Lee and producer Lisa Valencia-Svensson. Both will be in attendance for a Q&A along with our short presentation director and activist, Leila Almawy (CONSTANT REFUGEE).
What makes MIGRANT DREAMS so perfect for HER-STORY is that it focuses on the courage and determination of female migrant workers and the atrocities they face working in Ontario, Canada. Representatives from Migrante Canada and Caregivers' Action Centre will also be there to share their stories from the ground level and discuss how you can get involved.
ABOUT ACCESSIBILITY:
Our awesome venue and home base, Imagine Cinemas Carlton, has a fully accessible entrance, snack area (very important), theatres, and toilets. If you have any additional accessibility concerns, please reach out to us in advance of a screening. MUFF is dedicated to creating a welcoming environment for all of our patrons and will do our best to accommodate. You can read more about Imagine Cinema’s Accessibility Plan here.
The MUFF Society was a feminist community that aimed to celebrate the achievements of women and underrepresented groups in film and television.
We supported an inclusive definition of women and included trans women, genderqueer women, and non-binary people in it. (H/T)
