MUFF TO x Now and Then
MUFF TO x Now and Then (August 17)
HI ALL.
Now I know you all have been champing at the bit for another installation of (sarcasm font) my stunning and witty series of blog recaps, and I am terribly sorry about the delay to get this one out into the ether.
When this movie came out, I missed it by about a few years because I was just a little too young - it never became one of those important, formative movies for me, and I have nothing but sadness about that. I'm going to go ahead and say that Now and Then is the woman-identified Stand by Me and it should be remembered in time as a fucking classic. It masterfully weaves in death and sex and love and pain and friendship with ease; it is so cute and UM BRENDAN FRASER PLAYS A HOTTIE SOLDIER DRIFTER. (Talking about BF with Reel Girl Talk programmer Emily Gagne in a coffee shop landed me a free americano because I made the barista laugh, which was also pretty cool.)
Although we always have fun at our screenings, there was something really special in the air for Now and Then - a distinct feeling of excitement from some of the audience that they were re-living a childhood favourite: a movie that taught them about all the confusing and difficult feelings that come with getting older. And I swear to god, I live for that shit because I'm a huge dingus. Check out some of the fab faces who came out:
As a part of our series miniMUFF (where a short film plays before each of our movies which is written/directed/edited/produced by women), we paired Now and Then with the delightfully weird Penny's for Tea by Sophie Jarvis, where in a mid-50's suburban backdrop, a group of friends get together for tea: and they're all played by a dogs. Because, why not?
