MUFF TO x Goodfellas
#MUFFxTO - Goodfellas (January 13)
Richelle here.
Is it even worth talking about that horrible, horrible guy who wrote that article about how women will never be able to 'get' Goodfellas? (Honestly, I don't even remember his name, I was about to Google it but then I was like 'whoops forgot I don't care'). We knew we wanted to play a movie edited by Thelma Schoonmaker (long-time editor for Martin Scorsese), but after that article came out, Goodfellas shot right to the top of the list because we're not only big fans of Schoonmaker, we're also big fans of big fuck-you gestures. And what a GREAT night it was.
This month people indulged in our MUFFtail called The Wiseguy (seen above in the hands of co-producer Lisa), which was green slushie and scotch. I was just about to make a joke about having many Wiseguys that night but then I thought, "I think my mom reads these posts." Don't tell my mom I make a lot of sex jokes, please.
Something that I've learned being a part of Toronto's film scene is that a theatre experience is indescribably different than an individual viewing experience. Maybe it's the fact that humans inherently enjoy company and that leads to an energetic vibe in the air, because holy crap did I ever feel that this night; watching Goodfellas with a group of people was an incredibly different experience. I've seen this movie upwards of 50 times, and I've never laughed more than a little smirk, but this time, myself and many others in the audience were keeling over at some of the funnier moments in the movie.
Oh yeah, did I mention that one of the limited edition buttons we made was Ray Liotta's ridiculous laughing face (which I still want to kiss all of the time) on a sparkly background? Alongside one of Karen holding the gun and another of the classic "FUNNY HOW?" on a pink background, we were particularly proud of our buttons this month.
If I do say so myself, which I do say so myself every single month because it's totally true - our sponsors loaded us up with some seriously rad prizes to giveaway before the movie started:
-The Candy Bar hooked us up with so much yummy candy and gift certificates to the shop.
-Coal Miners Daughter gave us a red handbag, an animal-print infinity scarf and some gorgeous earrings.
-The Beguiling donated three books: The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Conan Vol 13, and The Dead Boy Detectives.
-Girls With Gunz donated two shirts, "Goodfellas Kinda Lady" and "No Fugazi" (slang for 'no fakes').
-And we donated blu rays of the three films Thelma has won Academy Awards for: Raging Bull, The Aviator, and The Departed.
MUFF would like to once again thank our amazing sponsors who make our screenings so much fun, as well as our good pals Cinefilles and our special home, The Carlton Cinema! Thank you so much for an awesome kickstart to 2016!
And remember, never rat on your friends, and always keep your mouth shut. Or else I'll come after ya'.
INTIMIDATING!
