Breakthroughs Film Festival 2019
It’s May, so you know what that means! Yes, yes, it means it’s finally (finally!) warm enough to put those winter coats away but even more exciting than that: it means that Breakthroughs Film Festival is just around the corner. June 7th and 8th marks the 8th year of this most excellent festival and our second year co-presenting two of the films and we couldn’t be more excited!
If you don’t know already: Breakthroughs is a festival that champions emerging filmmakers who identify as women, trans, or non-binary. The festival takes place over two days and screens short films from around the world. ALL THAT TALENT. IN ONE PLACE.
This year we are proud to co-present Titanyum (directed by Gökçe Erdem) and Turning Ten (directed by Jaylan Auf):
TITANYUM: A promising young figure skater in 1990s Turkey has to overcome the self-doubt that is jeopardizing her performance.
TURNING TEN: Lamia and her husband await their turn in the clinic for their young daughter to be circumcised. The 10 minute wait leads Lamia to recall her own experience and question if she can change the fate of her daughter.
Breakthroughs Film Festival runs June 7 and 8 at the Royal Cinema. Tickets to BFF are pretty much a steal, especially considering how many films you get to see. A single day ticket is $12 and a full festival pass is $20. BUY THEM HERE RIGHT NOW!
But if you’re feeling like Celine Dion and like taking chances, we’re giving away a pair of passes to this year’s festival. That means you and a worthy friend can get to see all 21 BFF 2019 films! Enter below. We’ll be drawing the winners on Friday May 31!
