MUFF x NYC: But I'm A Cheerleader
#MUFFxNYC - But I’m A Cheerleader (November 19)
1 - 2 - 3 - 4 MUFF New York, you are adored, 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 fun cult films cuz girls are great!
The MUFF Society NYC cheered along our sixth screening at Videology this year with But I’m A Cheerleader on November 19! We truly felt that we were headed in the right direction by programming this #MUFFapproved, cult-classic.
Inspired by the kitschy and artificial decor of Mary Brown’s (Cathy Moriarty) residential homosexuality-curing camp, our MUFFians got together to decorate in a true heteronormative-mockery fashion with gendered tables and decor. We brought the pink and blue, tiaras and glitter too!
MUFF Producer, Lindsay, welcomed the crowd and opened up the night with a shoutout to our wonderful partner, Big Vision Empty Wallet, a fantastic organization that supports and encourages independent creators to get their work made and seen.
Next up was our exciting raffle with prizes donated by some of New York’s finest, including: the crafty gals at Punk Junk NYC, Cashmere Punk. We were also so excited to give out free tickets for the Museum of the Moving Image.
We were very excited to show two #miniMUFF selections for the night. The first being, the pilot episode for the upcoming web series titled Hypocrites and Strippers, by the super cool award-winning NYC writer and animator, Kim Yaged, followed by Janella Lacson’s take on the post-first date nerves, The First Date. Who calls who first, especially after an awkward stuck-in-your-hair-is-this-a-hug-or-handshake moment?
Finally we we were on our way to watching our longtime crush, Natasha Lyonne, attempt to take the steps to “cure” her lesbianism, with the likes of RuPaul, Mink Stole, Dante Basco, Julie Delpy and more! Clearly that wouldn't happen.
Many many thanks to everyone that showed up and a huge cheer to our NYC MUFFians for putting on another exciting screening!!
