MUFF x Practical Magic
Oh wow, what a magical night we had last week. First of all, it was our first ever sold out screening! We've come close a few times in the past before but never had an official "awkward announcement by Carlton staff in the lobby that there are no tickets left" sort of sell out. So thank you, thank you to everyone who came out and celebrated Halloween, sisterhood, and witchy magic with us at Practical Magic!
We kicked off our evening with our Pre-Show Lobby Party Spectacular (new official name). Our vendors for the Pop Up Shop this month were: Frills & Morbidity, The Femme Fandom Fix, Fiendish Fancies, and Lea's Boutique. It was the most perfect curation of wares for this film, if we do say so ourselves. (Big ups to our Vendor Coordinator Ali for arranging all of this magic!)
We also had a special treat this time around: a tarot card reader! Sonia was absolutely spectacular and had a steady line for our entire pre-show. The designer of our incredibly rad Practical Magic poster was also able to attend, which was super swell! If you haven't checked out her work yet, you can do it here: https://marielashlinn.com.
And, of course, a MUFF screening wouldn't be complete without a sparkly photobooth! We loved all the witches who came in their own hats! Also, we were hella impressed at how dang good everone looks in a pointy witch hat. This absolutely needs to become mainstream fashion. Also a special shoutout to all the attendees who committed to using our super heavy blender prop! But totally worth it for the perfect Midnight Margarita photo! See the rest of the photos on FB here. We also had our rockin' #MUFFMix playing during the pre-show, which you can listen to on Spotify any time right here. We absolutely say this every time but: this one is our fave!
This month for #miniMUFF we were very fortune to screen a super rad short film from filmmaker Amelia Moses. Read our interview with her on our blog.
Overall, it was an absolutely thrilling night. We hope everyone loved seeing Practical Magic on the big screen as much as we did!
And a final big thank you to our MUFF Friends & sponsors of this event: Imagine Cinemas Carlton, The Beguiling, The Candy Bar, Condom Shack, Lea’s Boutique, The Femme Fandom Fix, Frills & Morbidity, Fiendish Fancies. If you won yourself one of our fab raffle prizes, these are the companies you have to thank!
We've got two screenings left in 2017 and we hope you can come to both! On Wednesday, November 8th (YES, THIS COMING WEDNESDAY!), #ReelGirlTalk is hosting a short film night with Black Women Film! Canada. We have seven short films from Canadian Black female filmmakers and they are ALLLLLLL amazing. Event details here! And in December, we are ending the year right with a screening of LITTLE WOMEN. Yessssss. More details on that soon!
