MUFF x Toronto After Dark: The Lure
Finally, we can announce this exciting news! We are co-presenting an AMAZING film with a RAD film festival. “Who? What? Where? When?” we hear you say. Stick with us, we’ll elaborate...
A few months ago one of our producers had the pleasure of representing The MUFF Society at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montréal, Québec. Not only did she get to see a number of stellar female-directed features and short films (both in front of features and in their Born of Woman shorts block), but she also got to witness the magic that was The Lure. A horror musical about man-eating mermaid singers/strippers? Like, YES! Check this trailer:
Now, by the grace of some kind of film goddess, The Lure will be playing here in Toronto at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival… and we’ll be co-presenting! We’re nearly bursting out of our mer-tails with excitement!
Not only is this director Agnieszka Smoczynska’s first feature film, but it is also the first musical film to come out of Poland ever! It’s a musical production. It’s a horror flick. It’s a fantasy film. One second you’re smack in the middle of a flashy song and dance sequence (with all original songs, we might add) and the next second you’re plunged screen first into gory body horror. And HOT DANG, dat costume and production design (credited to Katarzyna Lewinska and Joanna Macha, respectively).
The screening is 18+ and will take place at Scotiabank Theatre (59 Richmond Street West) on October 21st at 7:00 PM. You can get your tickets here! And while you’re at it, you might as well check out the rest of the Toronto After Dark line-up because tickets are only $11 each if get some for two or more screenings!
Keep an eye out on our social media channels next week for your chance to win tickets to the screening! We’ll see you there!
